Liguria can boast a long tradition of cribs, often linked to the sea and the world of fishing. The towns overlooking the Gulf of the Island – Bergeggi, Noli, Spotorno and Vezzi Portio – they in turn have a long tradition linked to the representation of the Nativity which here however takes on entirely peculiar characteristics.
Vezzi Portio has on its side the presence of one of the greatest Italian nativity scene artists, Marco Pastorino which inside the oratory of San Bernardo next to the church of Portio has also set up a nativity scene this year that will be open until January 6 (Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 15 to 19 pm). It is a popular nativity scene that aims to reproduce the territory in which it is created. For this reason, you can admire bands and walls, stone houses with tiled roofs and typical farmhouses from the early twentieth century with the farmyard where animals roam. The painting is with natural earths and rabbit glue, similar to what was done in ancient times. To this is added a part of mechanization that allows for, for example, the day and night effect. The work is enriched year after year with new spaces and settings.
A Noli instead the passion for the history ofDominae Naulenses and Knights of the White Weapons Association has expressed itself in a nativity scene and an artistic installation that tell the glorious past of the Maritime Republic but at the same time also the present in the world. The nativity scene, housed in the premises of the pharmacy in Corso Italia 9 inside the premises of the former autonomous tourist company, will be open until January 12th from 15:00 pm to 18:00 pm (weekdays) or 10:30 am to 18:30 pm (holidays and days before holidays). It is divided into three different settings: the first inspired by Noli with the castle, the bishop's palace and the ancient village, the central part evokes ancient Galilee while the third section wants to represent the Ligurian hinterland. The same rooms also host a reinterpretation of the Christmas tree, which leads the visitor through the meaning of Christmas, from the original Nativity to the modern celebration that sees consumerism contrast with the territories devastated by war.
