The route begins in front of the Palace where Pope Pius VII stopped to rest in 1807, at the time when Spotorno was just a small village of sailors and farmers. With the arrival of the train everything changed and Spotorno became an important seaside resort: the first bathers arrived, the English, and with them the writer DH Lawrence, famous for his novel “Lady Chatterley's Lover”.
